September Updates

Gilmer Homecoming

Homecoming is on Friday, September 25th.  We want to support all of our Buckeyes so we are asking students to dress in Orange and Black and/or Buckeye attire on both Thursday, September 24th for the Junior High and JV games and on Friday, September 25th for the varsity game.

Students are allowed to wear mums and/or garters as long as they do not become a distraction to learning.

Car Rider Drop-off and Pick-up

Thank you so much for helping us keep great relationships with our neighbors! Just a friendly reminder, please avoid throwing trash out of your vehicle, be mindful not to block driveways, and make sure local traffic can pass by easily. In the afternoon, when you arrive at your pick-up spot, please have your car tags visible—that way, we can quickly get your child safely into the vehicle.

Thank you for your help and continued support.

Dudes at the Door

We would like to invite volunteer fathers and male role models to greet students as they arrive on Friday mornings. This is a wonderful opportunity to create a positive start to our students' day and offer a friendly, welcoming presence. We appreciate the continued participation of male role models in supporting the students at GECC, their education, and their future success.

If you are interested in participating, please go to the following link: https://www.gilmerisd.org/community and complete the three steps on the web page. Once completed, a GECC staff member will contact you to schedule a Friday (7:10am-7:45am) for you and other dads/male role models to welcome our GECC students to school.

Mid-Month Updates

We are excited to announce a new feature with our monthly updates.  Each month, we will have timely and helpful information posted from our very own Nurse Mindy!

As always, if you have any medical questions or are in need of further assistance, feel free to call or send Nurse Mindy Hamilton a message through ParentSquare.

Notes from Nurse Mindy

Cold and flu season is right around the corner, and, according to the Centers for Disease Control, there are some habits that can help keep you and everyone around you healthy.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth to prevent spreading germs.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces regularly.
  • Stay home if you feel unwell or show flu symptoms.
  • Remain home for at least 24 hours after your fever resolves without using fever-reducing medication.
  • Get your annual flu shot.

You can register your child for the flu shot clinic scheduled for
