Dear Parents/Guardians,

This past month has been so busy, and our students have done an amazing job adapting to all the changes in routines for our special days.  October was packed with fun and excitement.  We kicked off the year with our first field trips—some students had a blast at the Yamboree Grounds, while others enjoyed a visit to the Caldwell Zoo.Our kids also got to meet community helpers and learn about the important jobs they do to keep our community running smoothly.  Plus, everyone joined in the fun for Red Ribbon Week and showed off their creativity with Halloween costumes.  Looking ahead, November is shaping up to be just as exciting, so make sure to check out the newsletter for all the details.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give us a call at 903-841-7860!

As we enter into the Thanksgiving season, it gives us the perfect opportunity to reflect on the many things for which we are grateful.  We’re so fortunate to have such cheerful and enthusiastic students who come to school eager and excited to learn. A big heartfelt thank you also goes out to you, our wonderful GECC parents and guardians. We truly appreciate your partnership and trust in us to care for and educate your child.

Sincerely,

Lisa Killebrew
Principal

Callie’s Acre

A big thank you to Callie’s Acre for generously donating pumpkins to every classroom!  The students had so much fun using the pumpkins in all kinds of activities, sparking great conversations and learning along the way.  We’re truly grateful for their kindness!

Attendance Matters

We had 57 amazing students with perfect attendance for the first nine weeks—way to go!  A big thank you to all the parents who are doing such a great job making sure their kids come to school every day and on time.  To celebrate, all our perfect attendance students got to enjoy some extra recess outside with their friends!

The excitement is building in our classroom Tater Tot Challenge, with classes still racking up perfect attendance days.  Right now we have a three way tie between Mrs. Ross's, Mrs. Terry's, and Mrs. Walker's classes.  We’re so excited to see which class will win the Sonic Tater Tot party—stay tuned!

Camp Learn-A-Lot

Tuesday, November 10th 5:30pm-7:00pm

Join us for a fun evening with your GECC teachers!   Explore different stations where you can play academic games and discover exciting ways to help your child learn at home.  Take some time to stroll around the building—check out the amazing student work displayed outside the classrooms, stop and see the Tootles near the cafeteria, and don’t miss our Wall of Heroes showcasing the Students of the Month as well as our Veteran’s Day Wall of Heroes in the front hallway. When you’re done, swing by the cafeteria for a free corn dog and lemonade. Before you go, treat yourself to something sweet from the bake sale table—just a heads up, the bake sale will only be accepting cash.  We can’t wait to see you there!

Veteran’s Day-Wednesday, November 11th

As we get ready to celebrate Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11th, we’re putting together a special "Wall of Heroes" to honor the incredible men and women who’ve served in the armed forces. We’d love to include photos of veterans from our school community or your family!

If you or someone in your family is a veteran, please send a picture to the school by Monday, November 9th.We’ll display the photos on our "Wall of Heroes" to celebrate their service.  Don’t worry – after Veterans Day, we’ll return all the pictures, so please write your child’s name and teacher’s name on the back.

Progress Reports

Progress reports will be sent home on Thursday, November 12th.  Check your child’s folder for the progress report envelope. Don’t forget to sign the paper and return it with the envelope to your child’s classroom teacher.
If you'd like to set up an in-person conference with your child's teacher in the coming weeks, feel free to reach out to them through ParentSquare to set up a convenient time.

Reading with Dudes

Friday, November 13th

Reading with Dudes is a male, only event and is all about celebrating the important men in our kids’ lives!  Head Start requires two male involvement events each year, and we’re excited to include our Pre-K students this time around.  At GECC, we truly appreciate how important dads and other male role models are for children’s growth and family well-being.These events are a great way to build stronger bonds, encourage positive parenting, and support families—helping our kids get ready for school with confidence.

We warmly welcome all the special men who play a role in our students’ lives—whether it’s dads, uncles, grandpas, brothers, or any other male who’s a positive influence.  Because space is limited, we kindly ask that only one male role model attend per student.  Keep an eye on your child’s backpack in the first week of November for all the details and an RSVP slip.  We can’t wait to see you there!
