Karen Holyfield, Director of PEIMS

""

Hi.  I’m Karen Holyfield, PEIMS Database Analyst here at Gilmer ISD.  I began working at Gilmer ISD in June of 2016 and I love being back in my hometown. I have over 17 years experience in schools with 14 of those years in PEIMS.  Everyone asks what is PEIMS because it’s not really that common and I love to explain what I do.  PEIMS is Public Education Information Management Systems and what that really means is all the information that pertains to students, staff, finance, and accountability is mostly reported to the Texas Education Agency and Stakeholders (Texas Legislature, SBOE, DVM, and many other acronyms) to be evaluated, disaggregated, and hopefully to help make our students successful and provide more opportunities for growth.  PEIMS helps with funding for schools, accountability for students, teachers, adminstrators, and public school districts in Texas.  Everything in PEIMS is public information and a wealth of knowledge and reports can be found at the TEA website.

In addition to being a PEIMS Database Analyst, I’m also a Skyward Specialist.  I love our student information system and one of my favorite things is to teach others about Skyward.  Skyward’s Family Access Portal is a vital tool for parents and students alike.  In the portal, a parent could register a student, communicate with teachers and administrators, keep an eye on their child’s attendance and grades, manage any fees for devices, t-shirts, field trips, and more, as well as see report cards and accomodations.  If you ever need any help with the portal, please give me a call or any campus registrar for help.

New Student Online Registration

If your student is new to GISD or hasn't been in a Gilmer school in over a year, please check out our easiest way to register your student for school. Go to the PEIMS page, and look for New Student Online Enrollment and click the link. From the comfort of your own home you can upload documents and complete all paperwork. Once your student's paperwork has been completed, the office will contact you to come in for scheduling. It couldn't be easier or more convenient.

Technology 1:1

This year Gilmer ISD is proud to welcome our new Technology 1:1 program for Intermediate through High School. This means the district will provide every GIS, BJHS, and GHS student with a laptop to use through out the year. This program will allow our Buckeyes to have another academic tool to use in the classroom and at home. Our staff members have access to multiple online curriculum and academic programs that provide more interactive learning for the child and every student having a device will only enhance their learning. In addition, this will prepare our students for the future – if they are going to college, the workforce or the military Each student will need to pay a $40 fee for the insurance coverage for the device. This $40 covers all warranty work and accidental damage to the device. The laptop will come in a case and must stay in the case at all times. At the high school level, students will be able to take their laptop with them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They must bring it with them to school every day and it must be charged. Parents can pay the $40 fee in Skyward when you are registering your child for school. We encourage all families to pay online through Skyward Family Access following the steps below. This will allow you to keep a record of payment

New Links for Skyward Database

Parents, Guardians, and Students, This summer, our Skyward server was changed to a cloud based server and our links changed. If you have bookmarked a Skyward link, please delete the link as the old one will no longer work. Please use the link listed below and save/bookmark this one. If you currently use the Skyward App on your phone, please delete the app, and reinstall it again and the new link should connect at that time. We are sorry for the confusion and we appreciate your patience as we do everything we can to ensure that all data is safe and secure as possible.
