Scholarships and Financial Aid

You must always be careful of scams when searching for college money!!!

The FTC cautions students to look for tell tale lines:

  • "The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back."
  • "You can't get this information anywhere else."
  • "I just need your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship."
  • "We'll do all the work."
  • "The scholarship will cost some money."
  • "You've been selected by a 'national foundation' to receive a scholarship" or "You're a finalist" in a contest you never entered

Remember, the Path to Scholarship workbook outlines an organized way to apply for scholarships, but other web sites offer good information on applying also.

Many scholarship searches exist.  Some money is available, but you must take the time necessary to search many web sites and scholarships to find the ones specific to your needs and eligibility!  Then you must APPLY to the scholarships!  IT IS HARD WORK, BUT IT IS WORTH IT IF YOU RECEIVE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR YOUR FUTURE!!!

Remember, these are only a few of the web sites out there--search for more on your own, and be careful of SCAMS!!!

It is never too early to plan for your college education; just remember you must plan to pay for your education as well!!

Knowing how to estimate what you, your parents, or guardians will be expected to contribute to your educational funds is complicated unless you know the terminology and the formula for estimating your financial aid need.

FASFA is the federal form every college student must fill out!!!

TASFAA is our state funding form!
